PGE wanted higher tariffs. The office remained unmoved

Must read

Polska Grupa Energetyczna has applied for an increase in electricity sales tariffs for individual consumers. The Energy Regulatory Authority disagreed. He had previously turned down a similar request from the Enea group.

In December last year, energy suppliers agreed with the Energy Regulatory Authority on tariffs for the supply of electricity to the population. However, some operators considered them too low and applied for an increase at the beginning of the year. She did just that, the PGE Obrót shelf, whose application was rejected on Thursday. As officials explain, the company’s statement in this case did not meet the requirements of Art. 44-46 of the Energy Law.

Another application rejected

On Tuesday, the Energy Regulatory Authority rejected an application for a tariff increase that Enea filed in January. The company explained that the tariff approved in January was too low to cover the costs. Officials considered the demand unfounded.

In addition to PGE and Enea, Tauron, Energa, and from this year E.ON and Tauron GZE must also submit their tariffs for approval.

Compensation for companies

Tariffs for companies do not match the prices that residents actually pay. Electricity bills are much lower because the government has decided to freeze energy prices at last year’s levels. Energy prices for residential consumers up to certain consumption limits (2,000 kWh/2,600 kWh/3,000 kWh) are frozen at the level of tariffs for trading companies from January 2022. Moreover, for energy consumption above these amounts, the energy seller will not be able to charge a price higher than PLN 0.693/kWh.

Distribution charge rates for residential consumers have also been frozen to the above mentioned consumption limits. If, on the other hand, a household consumer consumes more energy than the specified consumption limits during the year, distribution fee rates will apply for each kilowatt-hour (kWh) supplied in excess of the limit, in accordance with the tariffs of operators for 2023 approved by the President of the Office for energy regulation.
