ChatGPT was supposed to revolutionize many areas of the economy. Many have predicted that certain professions will cease to exist within a dozen or so months. At the moment, artificial intelligence shows that it is far from the capabilities of the human mind.
People who have used ChatuGPT know not to rely on it. Artificial intelligence actually answers the questions asked very quickly, but after a careful reading, you can see that it very often confuses facts, people, or simply invents events that did not happen. It also happens that people who are still alive are “killed” by AI, and key historical facts are omitted.
However, in order to find out, you need to work on time for some time. Not everyone has the time, patience, or common sense. One New York lawyer was painfully convinced that relying on the skills of an algorithm was a bad approach.
ChatGPT made it all up
New York court judge Kevin Castel told the media about a very unusual case. At first glance, she looked like hundreds of others. A citizen sued the airline after a 2019 flight when a trolley whose stewards were delivering in-flight drinks hit and injured him.
The client hired a well-known New York law firm and hoped to win the case. However, things took a rather unexpected turn. The court received documents that were supposed to prove the guilt of the airlines. Representatives of the victim attached to the claim a list of examples of similar cases that ended in favor of clients, as well as interpretations of court decisions.
Varghese v China South Airlines, Martinez v Delta Airlines, Shaboon v EgyptAir, Petersen v Iran Air… list hundreds of similar cases. The problem is that after checking, it turned out that none of these tests took place.
The lawyer did not check the work of AI
As it soon turned out, the lawyer, in order to make his job easier, asked ChatGPT to invent similar cases, which … all of them were compiled and presented in a form that looked so reliable that the lawyer did not check them.
The lawyer who was told about the case by the court admitted that he used the help of ChatuGPT because he did not realize that he could think so.
What is artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of science that deals with the creation of computer programs and systems capable of performing tasks that would normally require human intelligence. AI is based on algorithms and mathematical models that allow you to analyze data and make decisions automatically.
Artificial intelligence uses many technologies such as neural networks, machine learning, image and natural language recognition, and robotics. In practice, AI is used in various fields such as medicine, industry, transportation, finance, and even art.
The goal of artificial intelligence is to create programs and systems that can think and act like humans using advanced information technology. Thanks to this, AI allows you to automate many tasks and processes, which increases efficiency and saves time and costs.
