The Germans boarded the oligarch’s yacht. Inside was property worth millions

German intelligence agencies have targeted the Luna yacht, which, according to Der Spiegel, once belonged to oligarch Roman Abramovich. Inside was found a collection of works of art worth millions of euros.

According to the German weekly, the Luna yacht, once owned by oligarch Roman Abramovich, is now owned by another Russian Krez, Ferkhad Akhmedov. The Azerbaijani billionaire is on the EU sanctions list. His yacht has been searched before, but now, according to Der Spiegel, authorities have confiscated a large collection of art that the Russian was hiding.

Investigation of the oligarch

German services are investigating the billionaire on charges of violating the Foreign Trade Act. The man allegedly failed to tell authorities about “significant assets” in Germany.

Already in early May, about 30 investigators searched his yacht. On Friday, the Frankfurt prosecutor’s office confirmed that a second search had been carried out, during which investigators seized an art collection worth several million euros.

The yacht itself was seized by the authorities last spring. The 115-meter vessel was recently in port at the Hamburg shipyard Blohm+Voss, owned by the Luerssen Group. The yacht was once owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Confiscated money will strengthen Ukraine

US Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday authorized the first transfer of confiscated assets from Russian oligarchs. The money should go to Ukraine, where it will be used to rebuild what was destroyed by the war.

The $5.4 million to be handed over to Ukrainians is the assets of oligarch Konstantin Malofeev. The Justice Department charged him last year with violating sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, alleging that he funded Russians promoting separatism in Crimea.
