Blocks want to produce electricity. Strong interest in subsidies for PV in cities

Must read

To date, 250 housing cooperatives and 241 communities have applied for co-financing of photovoltaic systems in multi-family buildings. Almost 450 million zlotys are to be distributed.

Will balconies lined with photovoltaic panels be a typical sight in cities in the near future? Considering how much interest there is in the PV construction support program for managers and owners of multi-family buildings, this may be the case.

Photovoltaics in the block. Who can apply for a subsidy?

Cooperatives, housing associations, and local governments with apartment buildings can apply for a PV subsidy. The budget for subsidies for investments in renewable energy, as well as for other investments that increase the energy efficiency of apartment buildings, is more than PLN 448 million.

- When we started accepting applications together with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego in early February, we did not expect that our program would arouse such great interest. Although recruitment has just begun, we already know that more than 33,000 people live in more than 500 apartment buildings in Polish cities. Families will soon receive renewable energy plants that produce electricity or heat for the needs of residents, said Waldemar Buda, Minister of Development and Technology.

250 cooperatives applied for RES co-financing

To date, 250 applications have been received from housing cooperatives, 241 applications have been submitted by housing associations, 14 applications have been sent by HOAs, and the rest have come from other investors (local governments, individuals, companies, etc.).

The main element of support will be a RES Grant for owners and managers of apartment buildings for the purchase, installation, construction of a new RES installation or the modernization of a RES installation, as a result of which the installed capacity of the installation will increase by at least 25%.

The award of the grant is not subject to any additional conditions.

Support is 50 percent. net costs of the project (i.e. excluding VAT). The cost of the project also includes the cost of the infrastructure required to operate the RES plant.

What are the savings when installing photovoltaics on the roofs of the blocks?

A few months ago, the media asked Minister I will indicate the extent of the savings that communities and cooperatives that decide to install photovoltaics can experience. The minister illustrated this with the example of a house with 64 apartments. Its inhabitants consume 4 MWh per year for general needs, which means a cost of PLN 2,800. The photovoltaic plant produces up to 30 MWh per year, so it covers the total consumption and generates income for the building in the amount of PLN 19,000. 600 PLN per year.

As a result, according to the calculations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Tourism, tenants will not pay for energy in common areas, and their own consumption cost will decrease - in this example, the average discount for an apartment will be PLN 328 per sq. m. year over the next 15 years. With a 50% subsidy, the expected return on investment is approximately 5 years.
