It could be worse? Minister of Infrastructure on PKP ticket price increase

Recall that in early January of this year. PKP Intercity announces that a new ticket price list will come into effect on January 11th. The base prices of single tickets on Pendolino trains will increase by an average of 17.8%, on EIC trains by 17.4%, and on TLK/IC trains by an average of 11.8%. The increase in PKP ticket prices was justified by the increase in electricity prices.

Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk referred to the increase in prices for PKP tickets on Thursday in the Sejm, answering questions from deputies about this.

Adamczyk dismissed claims by opposition politicians that the government was not supporting passengers as untrue. The head of the Ministry of Infrastructure recalled that the subsidy from the Prime Minister’s reserve alone amounted to PLN 575 million, while the total state subsidy for railways in 2023 is PLN 1.3 billion. If not for these actions, the increase in ticket prices would have been 50 percent. not 12 percent. - said the Minister of Infrastructure.

“The Government Doesn’t Raise Prices”

Adamczyk explained that “prices are raised not by the government, but by a commercial law firm.” at the same time, in 2021-30, the minister also pointed out to the opposition that during her reign, 2.8 thousand kilometers of railway tracks were liquidated, and the current team “launched new lines, built new stations.”

The Minister of Infrastructure also urged opposition politicians not to compare the minimum and maximum prices on a particular route. Adamczyk noted that, for example, the cheapest ticket from Warsaw to Gdynia costs PLN 49, while the most expensive ticket costs PLN 190. – You use free tickets, therefore, you may not know how the dynamic sales system on the railways works, in which the price depends on many things, for example, from the moment of purchase - Adamczyk emphasized.
