54.5 percent of adults will look for promotions on Christmas gifts for children. On the Christmas table of a statistical Pole, there will also be less wine, and if it does appear, it will be cheaper, from the market, and not from a specialized store.
Most Poles have been hoarding in one form or another for several months now. Shrinking the shopping cart, forgoing pleasure, replacing more expensive brands with cheaper products, or completely changing habits - everyone has a way to cope in a difficult moment. Since we are saving, Christmas will also be more modest - especially since it is not known what prices stores will surprise in December.
In previous years, prices rose before Christmas because sellers knew that in the context of Christmas gatherings with family, a few złoty would somehow not matter to buyers. This is done for good, because today most of us compare prices, analyze and wonder if we really need this thing.
We spend more, we buy me. It’s not a paradox, it’s inflation
GfK Polonia recently published data showing that in the first nine months of 2022, the cost of groceries purchased by Polish households increased by 10.3 percent, but at the same time, the volume of purchases decreased by 2 percent. This means we are buying less, but rising prices mean we are paying much more than we did a year ago.
UCE Research commissioned the SkipWish Group to conduct the study. It turns out that more than 60% of Poles want to spend less on gifts for children. 54.5 percent and they will be bought mainly by shares, - Rzeczpospolita describes the results.
Of course, there have always been supporters of buying toys on promotions, but in previous years, every third buyer was ready for this. What else do Poles want to save on during the holidays? 42.6 percent of respondents will save by spending less on gifts than a year ago. 34 percent will look for gifts in cheaper categories and 26.8%. reduce the number of gifts.
Rzeczpospolita checked out how Poles buy wine before Christmas. It turns out that this year it will be on a smaller number of tables, and even cheaper.
We drink less wine
Jakub Nowak, president of the JNT Group, acknowledged that the wine industry is in decline. During the year, prices for packaging and raw materials rose by as much as 75 percent. – Due to the destruction of metallurgical plants in Ukraine, the glass container market is in a difficult situation. Until recently, we were able to order the right amount of bottles, which were delivered to us on schedule, for example, every two weeks. Currently, we have to pick them up once and pay more, and then store them, which entails additional costs,” explains Jakub Nowak.
According to NielsenIQ, over the past 12 months, Poles have spent more than PLN 4 billion on wine, which is 4.9% more than a year ago. more than a year earlier. This is the effect of rising prices, because during this time the market has decreased by 0.9 percent.
