Tesla Optimus — Musk showed a prototype of the robot

During the presentation, Optimus entered the stage, after a few careful steps, he stopped and waved to the audience before leaving the stage. However, the quick demonstration was the beginning of a longer presentation of the capabilities and future of this machine.

With a length of 1.83 meters, the robot is expected to carry up to 20 kg and weigh just under 57 kg. It will move at speeds up to 8 km/h (comfortable walking around 5-6 km/h). The 2.3 kWh battery allows Optimus to work 24 hours without recharging.

The head of Tesla said that the company will be ready to collect orders in three to five years. The cost of the object is not more than 20,000 dollars (about 100 thousand zlotys). This is still not enough, as competing robots cost more than PLN 100,000. dollars.

Musk claims that while the robot is a prototype and “there is no brain yet”, i.e. the ability to move well in any environment and solve possible problems on their own. The head of the company says that with the support of AI, the robot should become smart enough.

What can Tesla Optimus do?

According to the materials presented by Tesla, the robot performed fairly simple actions. Optimus… watered flowers in the office, moved a cardboard box from point A to point B, or stigmatized work in a factory by picking up a piece of metal.

Since the Tesla humanoid robot idea was only unveiled last year, the progress is impressive. On the other hand, the current usability of the machine is negligible. According to Musk, there is still more to come.

We have a lot of work to do to improve Optimus and prove the importance of this concept. I think in five to ten years it will be an amazing car. They will blow your brains out,” said the head of Tesla.
