Tax debts of the Poles. We owe the tax office almost PLN 80 billion

Must read

At the end of the first half of this year. According to the Ministry of Finance, the debt of Polish taxpayers to the tax office amounted to almost PLN 80 billion. Poles are mostly in VAT debt.

Ministry of Finance data cited by MondayNews.pl shows that at the end of the first half of this year, Polish taxpayers owed PLN 78.9 billion to the tax office. This is 2.4 percent. less than in the corresponding period last year, when the Poles owed the treasury PLN 80.8 billion.

- Reducing tax arrears is a very beneficial phenomenon for the tax inspectorate and the entire budget. Its significance should not come as a surprise, given the economic downturn after the so-called. pandemic years. In connection with the lifting of anti-COVID restrictions, the financial liquidity of many entrepreneurs has improved, as they were able to pay off their tax debts. In fact, no one canceled them. The tax authorities are more likely to make concessions in repayment of such obligations, postponing the terms of payments or splitting them into parts so as not to reduce the results of tax collection. - comments Eva Flor, tax consultant, citing MondayNews.pl.

- The reduction in quota terms appears to be significant. However, it should be noted that the tax debt exists in the world as long as the taxes themselves. And they cannot be eliminated. Currently, the reasons should be sought in the anti-COVID restrictions. Arrears are also a consequence of the war in Ukraine and the rampant instability of tax legislation. he adds.

VAT dominates

The largest debt was associated with VAT - PLN 70.924 billion (a year ago - PLN 72.444 billion). It was followed by PIT - PLN 4.468 billion (a year earlier - PLN 4.9 billion) and CIT - PLN 3.465 billion (PLN 3.477 billion a year ago). - In my opinion, VAT is in the first place, because it has the highest standard rate. This is a general tax paid on almost every transaction with goods and services. In addition, the tax authorities can associate the same invoice twice with the occurrence of a tax liability - on the part of the seller and the buyer. Moreover, there are still numerous cases of the creation of the so-called. VAT carousels, i.e. mechanisms for obtaining illegal tax benefits - comments Marek Nichiporuk, tax consultant and legal adviser at the law firm Ars AEQUI.

The residents of Mazovia have the largest tax debt (PLN 39.170 billion). Second place with much less debt is Silesia (PLN 8.944 billion). The podium is closed by Wielkopolska (PLN 8.232 billion). This data does not surprise Eva Flohr, who points out that Mazowieckie ranks first in the ranking, as this region hosts the largest number of companies in our country.
