Toyota Corolla Cross H2 Concept is a crossover with an internal combustion engine running on hydrogen. The best-selling Japanese version of the SUV does not emit CO22.
Toyota has unveiled a hydrogen combustion engine Corolla Cross H2 Concept prototype that has been tested and refined in the extreme conditions of endurance racing. The car received a 1.6-liter direct injection 3-cylinder high-pressure hydrogen engine from the sporty GR Corolla H2 and hydrogen tanks from the Toyota Mirai.

The prototype retains the full functionality of the production Corolla Cross, offering a standard five-seat interior and a large trunk. The concept was developed taking into account the possible serial production. The car is currently being finalized through real-world testing and digital tools, and Toyota will soon begin winter testing in northern Japan.
Toyota believes in hydrogen
Toyota is developing new hydrogen combustion engine technology because of the potential benefits of this solution. These include the ability to leverage existing power technologies, no CO2 emissions while driving, short hydrogen refueling times, and a significant reduction in the need for hard-to-find and expensive elements such as lithium, cobalt and nickel. According to Toyota, hydrogen engines can lead to rapid reductions in CO2 emissions in the automotive industry with relatively minor modifications to already commercially available internal combustion engines and continued use of existing auto and parts factories.
Toyota estimates that the company has completed about 40 percent of the work so far. work on the commercialization of hydrogen combustion engine vehicles such as the Corolla Cross H2 Concept. It is not yet possible to predict whether this technology will reach a sufficient level of sophistication for use in production road cars, but there is no doubt that it will be used in motorsports.
